Why has my removal progress decreased?

You may notice that the removal progress in your dashboard occasionally decreases instead of steadily increasing. This is expected behavior—not a sign that something is wrong—and can happen for several reasons:

  1. Sites that previously didn’t have your information now do. Data brokers continuously aggregate new information and update their databases. A website might not have your profile during the initial Onerep scan, but it may publish one (or more!) later at any time.
  2. Sites we’ve removed you from have republished your information. Unfortunately, data broker removal is not a one-time task. Even after a profile is successfully removed, another one may appear later. As brokers compile information from various sources and update their databases, they don’t check whether newly obtained data belongs to someone who has previously requested to opt out.
  3. The list of sites we cover has changed. As some data brokers cease operations and new ones launch, we do our best to keep our removal list up to date. As a result, sites may occasionally be added to or removed from your dashboard.

Example: let’s say our initial scan found 100 profiles. 80 are removed, 20 remain—your removal progress is 80%. During a later scan, we discover 20 new profiles—this will bring your numbers to 80 removed and 40 remaining, reducing your removal progress to approximately 67%.

Even though the percentage has decreased, no removals have been lost. The lower progress simply reflects the fact that more profiles requiring removal have been found.

Ultimately, fluctuations are totally normal and don’t require any action on your part. Over time, as Onerep continues monitoring covered sites and processing new removals, the total number of remaining profiles tends to decrease—even if the percentage fluctuates from month to month.
